The Indian ?nancial system is undergoing a paradigm shift. With an in-creased focus on transparency and disclosure requirements, the regulatory bodies like the Reserve Bank of India, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, NFRA, SEBI need to play a more proactive role in boosting confidence in the capital market. The bank-ing system has been under stress because of huge burden of non-performing assets and the challenge in meeting the capital requirements under the Basel norms. On the other hand, FII flow in the Indian market through Participatory Notes, Portfolio investments have become very vola-tile and uncertain. Under these circumstances, it is pertinent that research-ers come together and try to deliberate on the problems facing the Indian financial system.
